Ted Engelage is the Director of Junior Golf and Assistant Golf Professional at The Jeremy. He was born in Belleville, Illinois where he grew up and participated in many sports including soccer, track, and of course golf. Ted also played the Violin from the age of three until he was fifteen. Growing up, his father, Dr. Arthur Engelage was a member of St. Clair Country Club in Belleville, and made golf always accessible for Ted. Golf has always been Ted’s passion.
Ted moved to St. Louis, Missouri to attend high school where he played varsity football for two years, and varsity golf all four years. Always holding the number one or two spot on his team, he was able to help the team and qualify for state every year, unfortunately, injury prone Ted never competed in the state tournament due to just that, injuries and mishaps.
After high school, Ted attended the Golf Academy of America in Orlando, Florida. (A shortened PGM program with no PGA affiliation) While attending school in Florida, Ted took classes such as Business Marketing, Computer Applications, Tournament Operations, Golf Rules and Regulations, and Several teaching classes set indoors and outdoors. He is familiar with the golf swing and enjoys teaching very much. Ted likes to teach both on the range and from a quick video lesson.” Golf can be a lot of fun to play and teach” says Ted, “but being able to help people not only understand what they are doing wrong, but teaching them the mechanics of WHY, is what I really love about instructing. When you know why the ball is going where it’s going, it can take a lot of questions out of your game.”
When Ted is not thinking about golf, he enjoys relaxing; fishing, hiking, biking, shooting, snowboarding, and really just about anything. Although he says this summer, is all about golf.
